Exclusive: Cameroonian prisoners smuggle out footage of horrific jail conditions
Excerpts:
“There are only three toilets and one shower for the 1,300 detainees in Unit 8. The hygiene is worsened by the fact that, very often, we don’t have running water. Moreover, many of the inmates behave unhygienically and just do what they need to do anywhere they want.

“You have to pay to be allowed outside””

“The main prison in Yaoundé, Cameroon is “overpopulated, filthy and rife with corruption and abuse”, according to an inmate who contacted FRANCE 24’s The Observers from behind bars. This man secretly filmed, with the help of some of his inmates, the overcrowded cells and “revolting” conditions in which he and other prisoners are forced to live.”

BOH HERBERT, IF YOU LOVE THE COUNTRY MUCH ALONG WITH YOUR CONSORTIUM COHORTS COME TO CAMEROON AND FIGHT. YOU ARE WORKING AND EARNING YOUR SALARY AND YOUR CHILDREN ARE IN SCHOOL. NOT THE CASE IN THE NW/SW REGIONS AT THE MOMENT.

YOU ALL HAVE CREATED GANGS IN THIS NW AND SW REGIONS, THEY GO AROUND TERRORIZING CHILDREN WHO WANT TO GO TO SCHOOL, PARENTS WHO WENT TO SENT THEIR CHILDREN TO SCHOOL., EDUCATORS AND PROPRIETORS ARE THREATENED DAILY FROM ANONYMOUS NUMBERS THAT YOU AND YOUR CONSORTIUM OUTSIDERS ARE ADVOCATING. PARENTS ARE MOURNING THEIR DEAD CHILDREN, THEIR MONEY LOST FROM SCHOOL FEES ALREADY PAID, UNIVERSITY STUDENTS ROOMS HAVE BEEN PAID IN ADVANCE AND THEY HAVE LOST MONEY. THANK YOU PUTTING US IN MORE HELL. YOU MAY AS WELL CALL ON THOSE BOMBING SYRIA TO COME TO CAMEROON.

      Hello
Hard to read your ALL CAPS feedback.
      Thanks for taking the time.
      Question: Who is “fighting” who?
Here is a video explaining the Cameroons situation.
It was recorded in 2008 by a Professor from the Cameroons.
      I am not a Professor.
Who did you say is “fighting”? Why?
I am thinking of Wirba’s niece that was raped in Buea University
by Cameroun govt agents. And that is not fiction.
      Did you say “fight”?
      Ok, here is the video:

Some prisoners talk of the Death Penalty as a preferable option. People are not just cramped in these cells, but there is no proper vetting. So you could be a petty thief or shop lifter in the same cell with a drug dealer or armed robber. These young people taken from Bamenda are going through hell now, they are beaten and shouted upon and called names such as ‘Bamenda’ which is Francophone way of insulting you as being stupid or imbecile. If you don’t have ‘new man tax’ the sentence even gets worse for you. Some people survive because their families bribe some of the guards to go easy on them in the jail. People simply starve to death…everything is in French and for someone to be taken from Bamenda or Buea to Yaounde, that is the beginning of the end for you.
Cameroon jails are save havens for bed bugs, rats, cockroaches etc; people breathe into each other! It is impossible to exaggerate the dehumanizing situation in Biya’s jails! This man needs to be removed by force, an individual like that knows nothing about dialogue. Biya, Eyadema, Bongo, and Boigny have long spell in power because these are the Four Evils of Africa who drain our resources and give to France. No matter what we do, the French will always protect them because they pay the colonial tax to the letter! Sankara tried to divert from that path and the French quickly organized his murder. Gbagbo tried it only to find his way to the Hague…so any hope that France will listen to our cause is futile. We need a military wing, Period!

Slaves were probably better treated. This is one more picture that shows very clearly that Cameroonians have less rights than animals.
