CAMEROON: U.N. ENVOY CALLS FOR PEACEFUL, LEGAL SOLUTIONS TO TENSIONS
The Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Central Africa, Louncény Fall, concluded a three-day visit to Cameroon yesterday. This was his fourth visit since November 2016, and the second focused on the situation in the North-West and South-West regions of Cameroon. During his visit, he met with Government officials, civil society, opposition leaders, detained representatives from the Anglophone movement and their lawyers, representatives of the international community and the UN system.
Mr. Fall reiterated the UN’s call to all parties to address the current situation through peaceful and legal means. He welcomed the Government’s announced intention to restore internet services in Bamenda for hospitals, universities and banks, as part of the measures announced on 30 March by the Minister of Justice. He encouraged the Government to consider additional confidence-building measures to appease tensions, including the release of the Anglophone leaders, and the full restoration of internet services in the two regions.
Mr. Fall also called on the leaders of the Anglophone movement to engage with the Government in a constructive manner to find a consensual and lasting solution to the situation in the South-West and North-West regions. He reaffirmed the willingness of the UN to continue to accompany the two parties in their dialogue efforts.
Mr. Fall will return to Cameroon on the occasion of the 44th ministerial meeting of the UN Standing Advisory Committee on Security Questions in Central Africa from 29 May to 2 June 2017.
We want independence because we are in their country that is why we are treated like slaves
Restoration of the independence and sovereignty of Southern Cameroons is non negotiable, period!!!!! The only things to be negotiated is a precise time table for la Republique du Cameroun to pull out all its personnel, both administrative and military. as well as their equipment and all else, out of our country.
Restoration of our Independence. Period. There are no alternatives. Independence or die. By peace or by war.
As a convinced and committed crusader for the independence of Southern cameroons, I most heartily appreciate the concern of the U.N. Envoy for a peaceful soluionto the constitutional conflict between La Republique du Cameroun and Southern Cameroonians. But my greatest worry is how LRC who have never accepted Southern Cameroonians as being of equal status with them will approach this dialodue. Will their high handed Head of State condescend to sit at dialogue table with Southern Cameroonian leaders whom he outrightly castigated as extremists or will he as usual send the same people who are responsible for the present stalemate to represent him?
Whatever be the case, if that dialogue is not centred on the non implementation of U.N. resolution 1608 of 21 April 1961 then we Southern cameroonians shall consider it null and void and of no consequence.
We the Southern Cameroonians/Ambazonians thank the UN Representative for the interest shown in this matter,so far. I am also happy to note that the UN will be present in any talks between us and the people of La Republique du Cameroun. We are waiting for the release of all our people as a precondition for the talks. We hope that before such talks, we would have completely finished the Restoration of the Statehood,Sovereignty and the Independence of our Nation-the Southern Cameroons/Ambazonia.Our Leader or his Representative will then attend and talk on our behalf. In that talk,we must emphasise that our Independence is non-negotiable.There should never be a situation where we can or will have a name like “Senegambia” or “Tanzania”.If we are so pressed by the World to have any association with LRC, a confederation will be the closest we can be with them.Let all of us remember that without any paper of any union with LRC,we have become their rats that they can killed at will. What state shall we let our children yet unborn live with them?
